Our History
The Gabba Business Association (GBA) has been helping and encouraging local business to work together and build successful business partnerships for over 25 years.
1999
In 1999, several local business owners attended a meeting of the ‘Gabba Goers’ run by Gail Austin at 1A Hubert St. This inspired them to start the ‘Gabba Business Association.
2000
The First ever meeting was in April with 5 attendees. The first committee was born.
- President – Michael Craig
- Secretary – Joe Constantine
- Treasurer – Glenn Maymann
2002
The first and only GBA Street Party was held. We closed off the Stanley St service road. Had live bands on the back of a truck & street performers and stallholders from the Railway Hotel (Chalk) to Gibbon St. John Harris from Joe Richards Menswear became President & Michael went to secretary.
2004
Glendon Young replaced Michael as Secretary.
2006
Glendon became President and took both rolls and completion was held for a logo. The 5 ways symbol was accepted with the slogan – Gabba – Gateway to the CBD.
2013
Suzanne Bosanquet became Vice President.
2014
Suzanne became President and Glendon became Secretary
2015
Paul Ryan replaced Glendon as secretary.Glenn continuously remained treasurer for this time since inception.
2017
In 2017 Tessa Lego became Vice Pres, Despina Emanouli became Secretary & Julie Sultmann became Treasurer.
The new Art Deco logo was introduced at this time.Glendon & Glenn were given ‘Life Memberships’.
2018
The Assn was mothballed after the Christmas function due to the pandemic.
2022
In February the Assn had a reboot with Glenn returning as President, Mick Brown as Secretary and Julie Sultmann as treasurer
2024
We saw a committee change with Glenn remaining President, Julie remaining Treasurer, Sophia Toohey replacing Mick and Paul Hey coming in as Vice President.
