August President's Report
The August meeting was all about further property development in the Gabba. Guest speaker Mr. Jason Titman from the BT Group operators of the Chalk Hotel explained the plans for development of their site behind the Hotel. The development will change the skyline in Hawthorne, Reid and Hubert Streets whilst the streetscape on Stanley Street will remain unchanged.
The development will consist of 4 residential towers containing some retail at ground level with one and two bedroom apartments above. There will be limited parking available and residents will be encouraged to use the pedestrian/cycle paths, and public transport.
The hotel will also undergo some remodeling with the old Joe Richards store making way for an extension to the Hotel with a car parking podium above. The project will be developed over the next five to ten years depending on planning approval and the state of the property market.
Other business included a report on the website upgrade, the “Glenn’s Gabba Guide” project and next month’s networking meeting at Yellow Cabs HQ. The Xmas party has been scheduled for the last Tuesday in November. Put the dates in your diary and see you at the Gabba Business Association.
Glendon Young
President
